Clearance Sale For Onkyo HT-RC260 7.2-Channel Home Theater Reviewed by Steven Burke (Earth)
Onkyo’s HT-RC260 presents an entry-level 3D-capable receiver. In adjustment to be adjustable with 3D your receiver needs to abutment HDMI 1.4 blueprint and this Onkyo does just that, complete with a whopping FIVE HDMI inputs, appealing absurd for a sub-$500 receiver. The specs are listed actuality on Amazon, so there isn’t abundant charge to go through them, but affective from a 130w/ch TX-SR805 to testing this HT-RC260 for analysis I was still calmly able to advance my abounding ambit Paradigm apostle arrangement to advertence levels. I don’t acquire a 3D TV so I don’t charge to use HDMI 1.4 yet. I will accumulate the TX-SR805 as my capital receiver as Super Audio CD is important to me and I use DSD>Analog about-face application the PCM1796 DAC’s activate in the TX-SR805 active DSD anon from a Pioneer 48AV SACD/DVD-A player. The HT-RC260 will acquire DSD natively over HDMI but I acquire accepted with Onkyo’s tech abutment than even in DSD DIRECT approach there is a PCM conversion, so if you’re a DSD purist you’ll either wish to use analog access or accept one of the college end models from Onkyo that does acquiesce for DSD>Analog about-face over HDMI after a PCM decimation.
This receiver is listed as a 7.2 receiver and appearance the new Dolby Pro-Logic IIz featuring added foreground acme channels and the Audyssey DSX for calibrating your foreground acme channels into your 5.1 system. The .2 on the 7.2 refers to the receiver accepting two powered subwoofer pre-outs instead of one, actual accessible for those not absent to use a splitter on their LFE output. The arrangement doesn’t about achievement larboard and appropriate subwoofer frequencies as at the frequencies your subs in a appropriate home arrangement will be outputting you will not be able to acquaint directionality anway…and you don’t wish to be sending 150Hz frequencies to your sub to activate with unless you wish it to alpha aural like a very shitty Bose Acoustimass system!
One added point of absorption is that your 7.2 receiver can be set to add either foreground acme channels or added beleaguer aback channels; all 7.1 encoded blu-ray discs acquire beleaguer aback channels encoded, not foreground acme channels. So what are you application foreground acme channels for? My assumption is as acceptable as yours. Sony’s SDDS cinema systems featuring 7.1 audio aswell acclimated foreground acme channels instead of rear beleaguer channels and they’ve been some of the best sonic adventures I’ve anytime had in the cinema - audition The Fifth Element in SDDS 7.1 is the #1 aural acquaintance of my activity in a cinema. Perhaps at some point we ability see foreground acme channels, but I’m not abiding if that’s even in the blueprint at the moment with the accepted blu-ray disc set-up. I don’t acquire an added brace of speakers, so my testing was all done in a 5.1 configuration.
One affair I absolutely admired seeing on this receiver is that there are alone four blended inputs, so the HDMI inputs outnumber the blended inputs. Hey, IT’S ABOUT TIME!!! Gosh, does anyone absolutely charge the 10 blended inputs you can acquisition on some of the college end receivers over the endure two years like the Denon 5308CI? It’s ridiculous. I can accept maybe you acquire one or two accessories at the most, nice to see Onkyo communicable on.
The TX-SR608 which is $100 added (MSRP $499 vs MSRP $599) gets you THX Select 2 Plus acceptance which may accommodate for added constant achievement with all-channels driven, something not abounding absolute apple sources will crave your receiver to do anyway, and aswell adds in a PC consecutive anchorage (15-pin) which I’ve never acclimated on any of my equipment, and is SIRIUS ready. If these appearance aren’t for you afresh you can’t go amiss with this Onkyo.
Kudos to Onkyo afresh for alms up a absolutely featured 3D receiver at a amount that should be adorable to anyone. 5 STARS based on achievement and affection set vs. price.
